Talk where there's no signal.
Yonder sends messages, photos and voice notes from phone to phone over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Direct. No internet, no account, no phone number. Other Yonder phones carry your message onward, sealed, until it reaches the person it's for.
For Android 7.0 or newer. Free, with no ads. Coming to Google Play.
How a message gets there
Every Yonder phone is part of the mesh. Yours finds the others by itself; you just write.
- 1
Phones find each other
Bluetooth looks for Yonder phones nearby: roughly 30 to 60 metres in the open, 100 to 250 with Bluetooth 5's long range.
- 2
Close by, it goes straight there
When they're in reach, your message goes straight to their phone. Wi-Fi Direct joins in for photos, videos and big files.
- 3
Further away, others carry it
Yonder phones in between pass it along. It's sealed for the person it's for: the phones that carry it can't read it.
- 4
No way through yet? It waits
Your phone keeps trying for 7 days, and phones carrying it for a day. It goes when someone walks into range, and you see the tick when it's delivered.
What's in it
Chats and groups
One to one or with your whole group, with replies and reactions. Read ticks in one-to-one chats.
Photos, voice notes and files
Files under 101 MB can travel through the mesh; bigger ones go straight to a contact over Wi-Fi Direct.
Locations and maps that work offline
Share where you are; maps you saved keep working without internet.
Check-ins
Send "I'm safe" to the people you choose, or an SOS that more phones carry so it gets through, even into a muted chat.
See who's near
A radar shows who is within reach and how strong the signal is.
Hidden and locked when you want
Go Hidden and your name is never broadcast. Lock a chat behind a PIN.
See the app
The chat list with the mesh at a glance, the radar of who's within reach, and a chat. On a phone, swipe sideways.
Nothing goes to us.
Your messages go through no servers, and there are no accounts. They are encrypted end to end, so only the person they're for can read them, and the phones that carry them only ever hold sealed copies.
No ads, no analytics. Yonder uses the internet only for the map, while you're online: it downloads map pictures, by itself too around you and around locations shared with you, and looks up places you search for. The map services see your internet address and which areas are downloaded.
What it can't do
Worth knowing before you count on it.
- Reach someone when there's no Yonder phone anywhere between you. Your phone keeps trying for 7 days.
- Call or text phone numbers, or message people on other apps. Yonder talks only to Yonder.
- Replace emergency services. An SOS alerts the people you chose, through Yonder phones; it doesn't call for help.
- Run on iPhone. Yonder is for Android.
